Ballroom Pick-ups

This gown's train is a little longer than most gowns I do with Pick-up Bustles, but still too short for a Ballroom or French Bustle. A Pick-up Bustle looks great.

Step-by-Step instructions for creating this bustle and others are on the Beautiful Bustles DVD.

This gown presents an interesting situation. There are 2 layers to this gown's skirt. The lace layer has a Chapel length train, but the lining is a Sweep length train.

The brides liked the idea of keeping the Sweep so I designed the lace to bustle so it sat a few inches past the lining.

Here you can see close-ups of how I rigged the Pick-up bustle on the lace layer only. You can see the anchor hook sewn to the bottom of the back opening with the lace pick-up point hooked onto it. A lace floret that was at the bottom of this opening was pulled to the side so the hook could be sewn under it. Also a metal stay is sewn on the underside of the lace Pick-up point to support the delicate lace.

Here you can see how the rigging looked once the lace floret was reattached over the hook.

This gown is very slim in the hip area. The bustle has to be rigged low. It can be done in either the Ballroom or French styles. This bride liked the Ballroom style.

Step-by-Step instructions for creating this bustle and others are on the Beautiful Bustles DVD.

French Pick-ups

This gown is also slim in the hip area but the skirt flair is a bit higher and the train a little longer. The bustle is rigged just below the zipper. This bride liked the French style.

Step-by-Step instructions for creating this bustle and others are on the Beautiful Bustles DVD.

Comparisons

This gown needs a low pick-up bustle. Here are pictures of both French and Ballroom styles set on the same gown. They are both good looking. It's up to the bride which look she likes the best.

Step-by-Step instructions for creating this bustle and others are on the Beautiful Bustles DVD.
